We Will Remember Them

Poppy Fields

Poppy Fields by DaveKav, on Flickr.

On this day in 1918, at 1100, the guns fell silent at the end of what was then known as The Great War. Millions of people on both sides fought and died so that others could live in some form of peace.

People still fight today, fighting to protect the freedom of those of us at home.  The wars might be criticised. The courage and selflessness of those fighting must not.

Remember the soldiers, the sailors, the airmen.

Remember the families, those who are left behind.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I will remember them. At 1100, I will stand, for two minutes silence.

We will remember them.

(Poem: For the Fallen – Laurence Binyon)
