As of last week, I am no longer the leader of my unit of the Organisation. To describe that as a relief is an understatement.
No longer do I have to deal with the politics of running a unit (well, directly at least).
No longer will it be a fight against a small group of self-appointed experts whenever I want to make the simplest change they disagree with.
No longer will every decision I make have to consider both the Students’ Union and Organisation HQ.
No longer will I have to panic over awkward training schedules, low retention rates and useless support structures.
I’m moving to Youth Work. Now I just need to have a hyper-awareness of child protection, worry about how to help get a Youth unit back up to its former high standard, and fight with adolescents who want to be there, but don’t want you to think that… But the adult staff work together, and most of the kids genuinely enjoy what we do.
Sounds relaxing 😀
